Notion is a workspace for documents, databases and teams. TackNote is a sticky note that shows up on the window, web page or document it is about. If you need a place to write and organize shared work, pick Notion. If you need a short note to appear by itself at the right moment, pick TackNote. Plenty of people could use both. We make TackNote, and for a lot of work Notion is the right answer.

Where Notion wins
- Working together. You can share a page with members of your workspace, invite a guest from outside it, or publish a page to the web. TackNote has nothing like this.
- Long documents and databases. A TackNote note is a note. If you are writing a spec, a wiki or a project tracker, you want a tool built for that.
- Getting started free. Notion says someone using a Free workspace alone can add as many pages and blocks as they like, with uploads up to 5 MB per file and 7 days of page history. TackNote for Mac and Windows has a 7-day trial, not a free plan.
- Every device, from anywhere. Your workspace is on the Mac, Windows, iOS, Android and the web. TackNote has no web app, and our phone apps do not carry everything.
Where TackNote wins
A note in Notion waits until you go and open its page. A note you have to go looking for is easy to forget, especially when it is a small one, like "check the totals in this tab before sending".
TackNote works the other way round. The note sticks to the window, web page, document or folder it is about. It shows when that thing is in front and steps aside when you move on.
- No account. You download it and start. Notes are stored encrypted on your own device, and we never see what you write.
- Pay once. $24.99 once after a 7-day free trial, for one person on up to 3 computers, Mac or PC. A separate payment covers each phone app.
- Recording stays on the device. TackNote records meetings on the Mac and writes the transcript there, with no bot in the call. The Android and iPhone apps also transcribe on the phone. Notion lists AI Meeting Notes on its pricing page, in the Business plan's features.
To be upfront about the trial: after 7 days on Mac or Windows your notes stay readable, but you need a key to edit them or make new ones. If you only ever need notes about web pages, TackNote Lite is a Chrome extension that is free for your first 25 notes and $4.99 once after that. Its notes stay in Chrome on that computer.
Using both together
These two do not compete much in practice. Keep the long material in Notion, and use TackNote for the short notes around it.
On a Mac, TackNote can stick a note to a single page in the Notion desktop app. Clicking the note's pill takes you back to that page. In a browser, on Mac or Windows, a note on a Notion page is matched by its address, so it comes back when you revisit that page. Read more about how that works in how to pin a note to a browser tab.
Moving notes between them
Notion can export a page as a Markdown file, and TackNote imports Markdown on both Mac and Windows, so short notes can move across. Databases export as CSV, which TackNote does not import. We would not move a large workspace: a document that long belongs in a document tool.

Questions
Is TackNote a replacement for Notion?
Not for most Notion users. Notion is a workspace for documents, databases and teams. TackNote is for short notes that show up on the window, web page or document they are about. Many people could use both.
Is Notion free?
Notion has a Free plan at $0. Notion says someone using a Free workspace alone can add as many pages and blocks as they like, with file uploads up to 5 MB each and 7 days of page history. Paid plans start at $10 per member a month on yearly billing.
Does Notion work offline?
Partly. Notion says all plans can use pages offline in its desktop and mobile apps, but not in a web browser. You turn on Available offline for each page, and paid plans also download recent and favorite pages automatically.
Does TackNote need an account?
No. TackNote has no account, and notes are stored encrypted on your own device. Notion has you log in to your workspace.
Can several people work on the same TackNote note?
No. TackNote has no shared workspace and is made for one person. If your team edits notes together, Notion is the better fit.
Can TackNote stick a note to a Notion page?
Yes, on the Mac. In the Notion desktop app, a note sticks to the page you have open, and clicking the note's pill takes you back to that page. In a browser, a note on a Notion page is matched by the page's address, on Mac and Windows.
